Robert Frederick Zenon Geldof KBE is an Irish singer-songwriter and political activist. In the late 1970s, he became the lead singer of the Boomtown Rats, an Irish rock band that became part of the punk rock movement.

Bob Geldof’s longtime girlfriend and first wife was Paula Yates. Yates was a rock Journalist before hosting the music show The Tube, which ran from 1982 to 1987.

She was well-known for her in-bed talks on The Big Breakfast in 1992.

Yates first met Geldof when she became a rabid admirer of The Boomtown Rats in their early days. They started dating in 1976 when Yates surprised him in Paris while the band played.

Fifi The couple’s first child, Trixibelle Geldof, was born before marriage. Fifi was named after Bob’s aunt Fifi, and Trixibelle was selected because Yates wanted a “belle” in the family.

After ten years together, Geldof and Yates married in Las Vegas in June 1986, with Simon Le Bon (of Duran Duran) acting as best man. 

Pixie is said to be named after a popular daughter character in Private Eye’s cartoon Celeb, a parody of the Geldofs’ other children’s names. In February 1995, Yates left Geldof for Michael Hutchence, the lead vocalist of the Australian band INXS.

After his first marriage, On May 1, 2014, Geldof announced his proposal to his 18-year partner, French Actress Jeanne Marine.

They married on April 28, 2015, in France. They currently reside in Battersea, South London.

Peaches, his 25-year-old daughter, perished from a heroin overdose in April 2014. Geldof stated that his family was “beyond grief” after learning of her passing.

When talking about his early life, Geldof was born in Dn Laoghaire, Ireland, to Robert and Evelyn Geldof. His paternal grandfather, Zenon Geldof, was a Belgian immigrant and hotel cook.

His paternal grandmother, Amelia Falk, was a British Jew of German-Jewish heritage from London. At 41, Geldof’s mother, Evelyn, died of a brain hemorrhage when he was six years old.

Geldof attended Blackrock College, where he was bullied because of his poor rugby abilities and his given name, Zenon.

He was hired as a music writer for The Georgia Straight in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, after working as a slaughterman, a road navvy, and a pea canner in Wisbech, England.

On the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he hosted the children’s program Switchback for a time.
