Im Transitioning My Jeans Into Spring With This Jennifer Lopez-Worn Style

May 2024 · 3 minute read

For the last several months, my favorite jeans have been out on leave. The wide-leg style I gravitated towards all fall suddenly felt a little too billowing for winter’s oversized sweaters and puffy jacket; it was a combination that, while seriously comfortable, lacked any and all shape. But now that I’m finally packing up those bulky staples, I’m ready to break my go-to flattering denim style back out.

While wide-leg jeans might have seemed like a fad — an overcorrection to the no-longer “in” skinny jeans — I’m of the belief that they’re here to stay; and, seemingly, so is Jennifer Lopez. The actress practically lives in the style during summer and fall and has once again brought them back ahead of spring, styling the oversized jeans with statement coats, classic tees, and everything from platform boots and white sneakers to pointed-toe heels. The style isn't just flattering and comfortable, it’s also versatile enough to make everything in your closet a little bit cooler.

As we approach spring, I’m adding wide-leg jeans back into my rotation, and these are the eight styles I’m eyeing.

Lee Legendary High-Rise Jeans

Amazon

If you’re wanting to get this look for less, Amazon shoppers love Lee’s Legendary Jeans. This style boasts a high waist, extra panel at the bottom of each leg that gives the jeans a subtle cuffed look, and cotton-spandex blend that maintains the style’s structure while allowing for a little wiggle room. “They have a touch of stretch but not so much that they get baggy,” explained one customer who deemed the style “surprisingly flattering.” And according to another, they “have just enough stretch to be comfy when [you] sit, but not so much that they're falling down all day.”

Spanx Wide-Leg Jeans

Spanx

Ever since an InStyle fashion editor wrote about how much they adored Spanx Wide-Leg Jeans, which she described as butt-lifting, smoothing, and softer than her other jeans, I’ve wanted a pair. These look like classic dark-wash, wide-leg jeans — a style that’s timeless and luxe-looking — but features Spanx’s signature sculpting technology. The waist is stretchy (yes, that’s a faux zipper) but offers hold, with shoppers noting that they “smooth, flatten, and flatter.” That stretchy, soft material even led one fan to write that the jeans “feel like…wearing leggings.”

Madewell the Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Crop Jeans

Madewell

Madewell’s Perfect Vintage jeans have been a staple in my denim collection for years now, and I’m completely obsessed with this new addition. The wide-leg style features a high waist, slightly cropped leg, and two patch pockets at the front; it’s that same silhouette I love with updated details. Fans of this style — which is also available in two lighter washes — have called the Perfect Vintage Wide-Legs “quite perfect in every way,” noting that they hold their shape throughout the day, are “extremely flattering,” and can be dressed up and down.

Ahead of spring, I’m finally bringing back the exaggerated denim style that offers comfort, flatters my figure, and elevates my wardrobe basics. Find more of the wide-leg jeans I’ve been eyeing, below.
