After growing up in Perth, Western Australia, Harris competed as a competitive swimmer before deciding to pursue a career in the arts. The next year, he relocated to the United Kingdom, where he began to create animated sequences for television shows. Harris started a musical career shortly after, first singing and playing the piano accordion, but quickly moved on to other instruments. In 1957, he composed the song “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport,” which went on to become a Top 10 success in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among other countries. A long-standing and famous performance centred on his song “Jake the Peg” was debuted when he was on tour in Canada. Harris has used a variety of unusual instruments in his performances, including the didgeridoo, the wobble board (a rhythmic percussion instrument), and the Stylophone, a small electronic keyboard instrument. He is also credited with the invention of the wobble board, which is a rhythmic percussion instrument. During the 1960s and 1970s, Harris rose to prominence as a prominent television personality in the United Kingdom, eventually hosting series such as Rolf’s Cartoon Club, Animal Hospital, and a variety of programmes on serious art and culture. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that he created in 2005 was the focus of a special episode of Rolf on Art in which he was interviewed about it. On August 29, 2013, Harris was charged with six charges of indecent assault on a child between the ages of 15 and 16 between 1980 and 1981, as well as three counts of indecent assault against a girl between the ages of 14 and 15 in 198His trial, which started on May 6, 2014, was held in his absence, and he maintained his innocence. Harris was found guilty on June 30, 2014, of twelve counts of indecent assault committed between 1969 and 1986 on four victims ranging in age from 8 to 19 at the time of the assaults. He was sentenced to a total of five years and nine months in prison after being proven guilty. In July 2014, he was sentenced to a term of imprisonment at HM Prison Bullingdon.
